Apple Is Reported To Drop iPhone XR Price in Japan

The iPhone XR in Japanese market might see a price drop as Apple plans to offer subsidies to local carries to carry out promotional activity.

Apple reportedly plans to drop the price of its latest iPhone model, iPhone XR, in Japan within a month after being released. If this happens, this is going to be the first time for Apple to lower the price of its newest product.

The Wall Street Journal said that subsidies might be offered to Japan’s local carriers to lower the price of the iPhone XR. As iPhone still carries its title as the most popular iPhone in Japan, the new iPhone seems to not be able to attract Japanese users’ attention.

This is not something new for the Cupertino giant as they have carried out these kinds of promotional activities for some countries in the past.

However, there is still no information on how much will be deducted from the iPhone XR’s price. On the other hand, there is no confirmation about XR’s price drop in Indian market.

Reuters stated that while Foxconn and Pegatron have been directed by Apple to put iPhone XR additional production lines on hold, smaller iPhone assembler, Wistron, is asked to be ready for rush orders.

This is because of consumers’ indifferent attitudes toward the new iPhone XR. According to Nikkei: “For Foxconn, initially, almost 60 assembly lines were prepared for the XR model, however, this number reduces to 45 lines since Apple said that it doesn’t need to produce as much as that anymore.”

The Wall Street Journal reported that production orders for all three iPhone models that made a debut in September have been cut down. Investors were shocked when Apple announced a lower-than-expected sales forecast for Christmas a few weeks ago.

This means that suppliers would need to release warnings about deficiency in new iPhone sales. When Apple cut its production plan by up to a third of almost 70 million pieces that had been produced by some suppliers, it is notably difficult to forecast iPhone XR sales.
