All We Know About The iPhone 12 Lineup So Far

Apple will likely release four new iPhones next year instead of three as usual, called, the iPhone 12, plus the iPhone SE, making five iPhones in total.

The latest reports suggest that Apple will likely release four new iPhones next year instead of three as usual. But keep in mind that the company will also launch the iPhone SE 2, making five iPhones in total.

Now, here are all the rumors of the iPhone 12 models that we have heard so far.

How many will Apple release?

JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee said that Apple will launch four new models for the iPhone 12 lineup in fall 2020. That includes one 6.7-inch model, two 6.1-inch models, and one 5.4-inch model, all of which will feature OLED screens.

That prediction about the phone sizes was correlated by Ming-Chi Kuo, who believes that Apple will ditch the 5.8-inch size. That would make one 6.1-inch model and the 5.4-inch model the lower-end offerings, probably called the iPhone 12. The remaining 6.7-inch model and the 6.1-inch phone will be the higher-end offerings, probably called the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

All the 2020 iPhone models may have all the previously rumored specs like 5G support as well as a new design. According to the report, however, the 12 Pro and Pro Max will come with 5G mmWave support and three rear cameras, which may be a ToF sensor for capturing depth information.

Additionally, the standard iPhone 12 devices are expected to feature two rear cameras along with support for the sub-6Ghz spectrum.

And the fifth model is the iPhone SE, meaning Apple may release a total of five iPhones next year.

Also, Kuo believes that the tech giant will ditch Lightning support from the phones.

TouchID comes back

As predicted in more reports this week, at least one 2020 iPhone will feature the ultrasonic fingerprint reader from Qualcomm, though this may be pushed to 2021.

Currently, the Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 already use Qualcomm’s in-display fingerprint scanners. On the other hand, the tech giant unveiled its 30x20mm in-display scanner dubbed the 3D Sonic Max, suggesting something we can expect in the iPhone 12 models.

The new 3D Sonic Max is 17 times bigger than the one used in the S10, and it will require two fingers to authenticating, meaning better security.

In separated news, we learned some weeks ago that next year’s iPad Pro will carry the new A14X processor along with the new mini LED screen. And the 16-inch MacBook Pro, expected to come out next fall, will also feature this display.

The mini LEDs are a hundred times smaller than the traditional LEDs, allowing slimmer, lighter screens than existing ones. As far as we know, mini LED will offer deep blacks, a great dynamic range, high contrast, as well as a wider color gamut.
