After Samsung, LG Hints At Foldable Display Smartphone

LG has filed its patent for the design of foldable smartphones.

Hwang Jeong Hwan, director of LG, announced in a press conference in October that LG is working on a smartphone that can be folded. A month later, the company is now expected to launch the handset at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next year. This is probably true when LG recently filed a patent application to be able to use the company's name for the designs of its upcoming smartphones.

The site LetsGoDigital of Netherlands reported the Korean electronics giant company has applied to register the trademark to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) for three product names Foldi, Duplex, and Flexi. We can easily see the common point between the name "Flex" and "Foldi" of LG as Samsung Galaxy F and Huawei's Flexi.

On November 21st, all three LG's application names were registered for the class 9 which includes smartphones. So, it can be sure that LG is approaching the folding smartphone. But we still do not know if these three are used for smartphones or any other devices.

The design of the smartphone filed by the company shows that the device does not have borders and is foldable. The screen turns off when folded and turns on when opened. Thanks to this feature users can save more battery life.

In February, Samsung will launch the Galaxy S10 smartphone. Samsung plans to launch a smartphone that can fold its first screen in March. Also in March, Samsung may launch another Galaxy S10 version that supports 5G network.

Apparently, foldable smartphones are the next innovation that the whole market is pursuing. Aside from LG and Samsung, big tech companies such as Huawei and Xiaomi are also looking to this design.

Huawei also filed for registration with four names: Huawei Mate Flex, Mate Fold, Mate F. and Mate Flexi to EUIPO.
