WhatsApp Allows Video Playbacks Even After Switching Chat

WhatsApp is testing a new tweak called video playbacks in the PiP feature for Android users in order to improve it.

WhatsApp has rolled out the PiP feature (picture-in-picture_ for iOS and Android users for a while. This mode allows users to minimize the video call screen and continue the call while they use other apps.

As reported by WABetaInfo – WhatsApp’s beta tester, there is a slight change that has been made to improve PiP mode for users of Android. Specifically, the new tweak in the PiP feature that WhatsApp has spent time developing is video playbacks.

In the future, users can watch a clip in the background even when they open a different chat window. Whereas, at present, when users leave the application or switch to another chat, PiP mode doesn’t continue to play video.

This new feature is now being tested only in version 2.19.177 of Android Beta and is only available in the testing mode. Although the new PiP feature seems to be completed soon, no specific plan for the release of its stable version as well as its release date has been revealed.

WhatsApp is also currently working on to its user interface (UI). The tweak has reportedly caused several screenshots to be forwarded to the wrong receivers. At the moment, when users choose an image in their gallery or edit it on WhatsApp, the photo of the recipient will show up at the top left corner; however, the photo usually camouflages with the image’s text as well as the screenshots which with confusing placement.

In the beta update version, names of the person or groups of the person whom users are sharing images to will be shown. This PiP feature has been found on the beta update version of Android and is also expected to appear soon on iOS beta version.
