US To Take Over The Crown Of World's Largest Gaming Market From China

The rapid growth of video game in China came at a cost: a governmental ban.

The rapid growth of gaming service in China came at a cost. Now, it is likely to lose the position of the largest gaming market in the world, after achieving it in three years consecutively. However, things are changing now. Due to the ban on gaming approvals in the country, China seems to be no longer the most abundant land for game business in terms of revenue. Instead, the US is looking forward to regaining the crown of the world’s biggest gaming market by the end of this year. Note that the nine-month ban has continued to be active until now.

On Tuesday, Newzoo has released a note to forecast about this. According to the research note, the US will overtake the top position from China after three years as the runner-up, by earning a whopping $37 billion from the video games this year, while China is expected to generate a slightly $36.5 billion in revenue. Further speaking, the US gaming market is believed to see significant growth in the console and mobile segments. Gaming markets in the Asia-Pacific region are predicted to bring back $72 billion in 2019, clocking about 47% of global revenue.

The ban in China has been issued in 2018, which will last nine months as the initial plan. It is primarily aiming at keeping the video game content in check as and preventing game addiction in the country. Last year, it reportedly generated the slowest annual growth in gaming revenue over a decade.
