Twitter is proving everyone that there’ll be no exception for those who violate its terms and policies, especially political figures. As stressed by the company in a blog post, those leaders “are not above our policies entirely”. Once content they posed appears to be a clear threat, the social media will restrict it by several enforcement actions, considering a ban or asking them to take down such tweets. Up to now, it has updated a list of “clear and direct” threats that can negatively affect people or even more-serious issues, including violence activities, promotion of terrorism or self-harm, private data exposure, and so on.
Though a harsh action in many other cases is not expected to happen, Twitter claimed that violating tweets with a “clear public interest” would be left online beside a notice. According to the company, it will ensure that users can get involved in public conversation not only freely but safely. Instead of “all potential interpretations” that a tweet could make, the social network seems to focus on its actual language.
As per Twitter in its latest announcement, all the direct interaction and conversation with political figures about issues related to foreign policy and politics won't result in enforcement.
On the critics’ side, they are not that happy while raising doubt about whether Twitter handles politicians a double standard, suggesting that their ban-worthy behavior would be gone on more easily. What's the catch, politicians could provoke violence indirectly through opposing cultures or political parties elsewhere.
