Twitter No Longer Supports Precise Geotagging As No One Likes It

Recently, the American famous social networking service Twitter announced on its official account that geotag feature is going to be removed.

Recently, the American famous social networking service Twitter announced on its official account that geotag feature is going to be removed. This is because not many people like tagging their precise locations in the tweet, which is the message that users use for interacting with others. The platform is known as the biggest social media platform, sharing the latest breaking news, entertainment, politics, sports, etc.

The Twitter support account said in the tweet 18th June that this change is “to simplify your Tweeting experience.” In spite of that, you can still tag your location in your Twitter photographs and share your moments if you want to. Also, according to TechCrunch, you can use the mapping systems of some other services' integrations such as Yelp or FourSquare for geotagging. It would allow you to add the location in your tweet indirectly.

The geotagging support was first announced in 2009, 3 years after Twitter was founded. At first, Twitter expected this feature to be popular and favored among users. Geotagging might help people keep up with local events such as concerts, festivals, etc., via adding the location in tweets. However, users prefer using trending topics and hashtags to spot their locations than using the geotagging feature. Moreover, if people use geotag accidentally, it can come up with some privacy risks, which is one reason for the lack of demand.

It is time for the company to strip out useless and unpopular features and improve some other key functions to simplify the services for better tweeting experience. In 2018, there were over 321 million users active monthly. Simple Twitter service is more convenient for such a big number of users. However, Twitter has not had any editing tweet feature for its followers until now, even though many people have been asking for an edit button in forever. We are all looking forward to some implements in the future.
