Twitter Launches New Rules To Take Down 'Hateful Language'

Last year, users in more than 30 countries have been asked to feedback about Twitter's previous hateful-conduct policy.

Dehumanizing others because of their religious beliefs are strictly unacceptable. On Tuesday, the micro-blogging site Twitter has made an announcement about its new rules that will be fighting against such hateful conduct. According to the company, any tweets containing those types of language will be immediately taken down as a punishment.

As part of the new policy, tweets going against the new rule but made before that will have to be removed if got any report. However, the owner's account will still be available because they're unaware of violating the new policy.

Last year, users in more than 30 countries have been asked to feedback about Twitter's previous hateful-conduct policy. The social media then got thousands of responses from those users and was asked to make clearer on definitions and to comply with the rules more consistently.

To protect other groups, Twitter is also reportedly working on other areas to get to know more before expanding new rules.

In June, the company has thankfully made several rules related to privacy, safety, and authenticity less complicated. Those updates include a number of examples and step-by-step instructions for people to report misbehaving content.

Note that earlier this year, Twitter has released new algorithms to detect abusive tweets even as no one is yet to report. In addition to this, the platform will restrict harmful tweets from celebrities by hiding them from other users.

Twitter is not the only social media that has to suffer the issues of misinformation and hate speech - while we're still having Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. For all of them, it's obviously better to be safe than sorry when taking down hateful speech on their platforms. Twitter last year banned Tommy Robinson and Alex Jones, who are a far-right activist and a famous conspiracy theorist, respectively.
