Twitter Promotes Shocking Ads For Human Organs, Making A Profit In The Most Disturbing Way

Twitter has both human and machine review, which is hard to understand why inappropriate content still slip through despite this level of meticulousness

Twitter, like other social media platforms, has problems. Racism is one thing, but people are seriously worried about its promoted content, which ranges from brand-centric to organ donor advertisements. And they also track you wherever you go, making the whole Internet browsing experience of yours weird.

Last week, Tyler Coates, a freelance journalist saw a promotion of an organization that buys organs showing itself on his feed.

The fact that he saw the ad there in the first place is just wrong as Coates has never shown any kind of interest in having new organs nor he accidentally click on something that might indicate that he is on the market for one.

Five years ago, under the pressure of making its content more appealing, Twitter experimented with new ways to show content to users, but at the same time, limit advertisers’ ability to target the right people. Here is an example of a weird tweet that usually appears on people's feed:

Since the story of organ-purchasing ads surfaces, the account that created the ad was suspended. However, the person behind the ad just made a new one and keep the weird ad going. So you might probably see an ad like that while surfing Twitter, even if you have shown no interest in buying organs.

According to Twitter’s spokesperson, the company has both human and machine reviews of content, which makes it hard to understand why inappropriate content still slip through its defense despite this level of meticulousness.

The platform is milking advertising in a very disturbing way, which allows small-rate scammers to run wild. The fact that there is an account just for organ advertising is a solid proof of Twitter's lax monitoring on what should and what should not be advertised on its platform.
