Ahead of the 2020 Presidential election, Twitter is showing its effort on fighting misinformation and fake news by acquiring a London-based start-up called Fabula AI, which initially focuses on machine-learning tech.
According to CNET, the startup has reportedly been developing Geometric Deep Learning - a dedicated technology that helps companies to spot fake news and achieves several effective success rates. Previously, TechCrunch had reported that the Fabula AI system was able to detect fake news 93% of the time. Fabula AI tools will support identify the authenticity of any information that circulates on the Internet, especially on Twitter. The system will measure data related to the news then spot whether it's fake or not.
In addition, the company said it believed Fabula AI is owning world-class experts and researchers in machine learning and deep learning for helping the company detect network manipulation. To be a better place and improve the safety of conversations, Agrawal said it’s necessary for the social network to have such a move.
Until now, financial figures for the transaction are not disclosed. Prior to this acquisition, Twitter cracked down nearly 3,000 fake accounts from Iran last week. FireEye – a US cyber-security firm said in a report that those accounts impersonated congressional candidates in the US to spread out political messages. At present, social networking platforms like Twitter and Facebook have been under immense pressure for the responsibility of preventing fake news.
