Snap Inc Is Setting Up The First Office In India To Expand Its Market

The Chief Strategy Officer of Snap Inc revealed that the company’s Indian team have aimed to expand strategic collaborations, set up a general community of users and creators, and support local advertisers.

On August 12, Snap Inc reported that its daily active users (DAU) in the Indian market has increased by 40 percent year-on-year in Quarter 2 2019. Also, it is building the first office in India in a bid to expand its business growth.
In an interview with PTI, the Chief Strategy Officer of Snap Inc, Jared Grusd, revealed that the company’s Indian team have aimed to expand strategic collaborations, set up a general community of users and creators, and support local advertisers.
Grusd stated, “While we do not break down country-specific userbase, what I can say is Snapchat has seen a 40 per cent DAU increase in India from Q2 2018 to Q2 2019. We are setting up our first office in India in Mumbai in order to support the continued growth of our business in the country.”
Snap pointed out that there were around 203 million Snapchat users per day on average.
Snapchat is the multimedia messaging application of Snap Inc. With the app, users can share photos with their friends within 24 hours before these photos really disappear out of the platform.
At the beginning of 2019, Snap had made an announcement on appointing Durgesh Kaushik as the company’s first employee in India. He would serve as the Head of India Market Development.
In addition, the company has added 04 Indian languages to its app and planned to introduce another 05 languages before this year ends.
The Chief Strategy Officer further said, “We believe that building a team locally will allow us to create the best possible experience for local Snapchatters. We continue to expand our strategic partnerships with regional media companies add more community content, and work with local content creators.”
Last month, the company organized its first event called “Creator Summit” in Mumbai in a bid to connect with India’s creator communities.
As of now, Snap Inc has partnered with many renowned brands including OnePlus, Cadbury, and Pepsi in India. Besides, it teamed up with Gaana.com and JioSaavn to launch SnapKit which allows Snapchat users to post and share music content on its app.
Different from other social media sites, Snap aims to provide a communication environment between close groups of friends.
Grusd explained, “We are private by design... the ephemerality (of content) kind of extends that whole philosophy around making it private by design. It’s a place for real friends where they can share their moments without any social pressure.”
