A Security Flaw On iOS 13 Was Detected Before Apple Launches The Stable Version

Next week, the iOS 13 version without the fix will be rolled out and users will have to wait for the release of the iOS 13.1 version on September 30 to have the fix installed on their devices.

There are a few days to go before Apple launches the stable version of iOS 13. However, a security researcher named Jose Rodriguez has recently detected a security flaw that allows any user to access an iPhone without knowing a password to open the lock screen.

Hackers have to use an iPhone to make use of this security flaw.

According to Jose Rodriguez, as reported by The Verge, all kinds of the following information will be subject to be targets of the security flaw: phone numbers, addresses, email addresses, as well as other contacts. More particularly, it makes a FaceTime call and leverages the voiceover feature of Siri to approach the contact list on the targeted iPhone. Besides, remote access is impossible; therefore, hackers have to use an iPhone to make use of this security flaw.

The security researcher, in fact, informed Apple of the security flaw in July; however, the company announced that the fix would be only available in late September. Next week, the iOS 13 version without the fix will be rolled out and users will have to wait for the release of the iOS 13.1 version on September 30 to have the fix installed on their devices. Accordingly, the fix is actually available on the beta version of the iOS 13.1.

This is not the first time Apple has faced security issues, for example, in the iPhone 6 models. At that time, hackers could bypass the lock screen and exploit both contacts and photos on iOS devices. More notably, even Touch ID and passcode couldn’t prevent them from stealing users’ data.

The same situation also happened to iOS 12.1. Hackers attacked users’ contacts by bypassing the lock screen and making a call via the FaceTime feature.

Apple will introduce iOS 13 to iOS users all over the world on September 19. A series of new features will be included in the latest version, such as updated Maps application, dark mode, as well as some improvements to enhance the security.
