Samsung hasn’t released its Galaxy Book S yet, but the company has already announced the first two laptops for 2020: the clamshell Galaxy Book Ion and the 2-in-1 Galaxy Book Flex.

The laptops, which will both come in 15.6 and 13.3 inches, will become the first in the world to house QLED screens from Samsung with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. Samsung previously showed its preproduction models and their display looked great with 100 percent sRGB as well as DCI-P3 color spaces while their brightness was just up to 400 nits.

However, they will come with an Outdoor mode to push the brightness to 600 nits. And in case you want additional graphics power, the 15-inch model will feature the GeForce MX250 discrete graphics from Nvidia.

Both the Ion and the Flex are under the program Project Athena. Powered by Intel’s tenth-generation chips, the Ion with the comet Lake and the Flex with the Ice Lake will function more like smartphones, which offers the same instant-on responsiveness and experience. In addition, they will feature longer battery lives as well as Wi-Fi 6, along with Thunderbolt 3 for faster wired and wireless connections.

Moreover, their touchpads will both double as wireless PowerShare chargers. By pressing a function key, the pad will start acting as a charger for any Qi-enabled device. Obviously, you cannot use it as a touchpad while charging, but it’s a great extra to use when you are in a meeting or other cases when you don’t need the touchpad. Plus, the Flex and the Ion both feature fingerprint readers in their keyboards so you can sign in faster.

Samsung hasn’t revealed their pricing but said that the Ion will be cheaper than the other. The Ion will weigh just around 1 kg and feature a lifting hinge so that you can type on the keyboard at a better angle. And it has no touch displays but the Ion 2-in-1 will.

Coming alongside the blue aluminum Ion is the S Pens stored in the body so you can use it anytime to write and sketch on the display. Plus, the device will support air gesture controls like on the Galaxy Tab S6 and the Note 10.
