OnePlus is developing its own line of 4K TVs, as announced by CEO Pete Lau in September 2018 and confirmed again by the company in August 2019. During that time, several leaks and rumors have surfaced about what to expect of the new OnePlus TVs. The first thing you should know is that the size will start at 43 and may run all the way to 75 inches.
Most of what we know so far came from submission to Bluetooth SIG. If you are unaware, all devices that make use of Bluetooth must first have a Bluetooth SIG’s certification. The documentations suggest that these unique TVs will feature LED screen, not QLED or OLED.
From the listings, we can be sure that the 43-inch variant will be distributed exclusively in India, the other configurations include 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch will be available in the United States and China. The first two characters in the code may be the indication of the size while the other two are for regions.
The OnePlus TV Is Unique
What stirs people’s curiosity about this new lineup is the fact that OnePlus refers to them as unique Android TVs. What interesting here is that Google does not exactly allows much customization when it comes to Android TVs, so if OnePlus is so confident with this new lineup, it may have made some sort of a deal with the American tech giant.
If you are unfamiliar with the term Android TVs, here is a quick recap. It is Google’s approach to make smart TVs. Instead of greeting users with a list of all of apps, search bar, stocks, or weather, the OS focuses more on helping users discover what they can do with the device.
Android TV offers access to Google Play Store so users can download the apps they like and enjoy on the large screen of a TV.
Another possibility is that while the software is not so different from that of other Android TVs, the hardware is what differentiates OnePlus’s device from others on the market. This projection has more chance of happening as OnePlus is known as a company that usually pushes for the latest tech. It was the first to release a smartphone with a pop-up mechanism and edge-to-edge screens.
So far, the most credible piece of news is that OnePlus is working on its own TVs. Other rumors are formed by piecing information gathered from what Lau announced and those listed in a filling online, meaning you should not get your hopes up just yet.
When it said ‘unique,’ OnePlus does not refer to the lineup itself. However, the company promises us a lot more:
When Will The OnePlus TV Launch?
The Bluetooth SIG listing refers to the device as 1+ LED TV, but no information on when the TVs will make it to the market has been shared. Bluetooth SIG does not usually have information on the hardware so we might have to wait for more leaks to have a better idea of what to expect with the upcoming TVs.
