A few days ago, OnePlus introduced its very first Research & Development center in the southern city of Hyderabad in India. The center will work on software features and its researching scope can cover areas like 5G, AI, and maybe, IoT in the future.
According to OnePlus, this is by far the company’s biggest R&D facility to date. The center can accommodate up to 1500 employees and the recruiting process will happen in the next couple of years.
According to Vikas Agarwal, OnePlus’s general manager for India, the center will research features of the company’s Oxygen OS, for India and other markets.
The company plans to establish three labs in the new facility, including an automation lab for testing the aging of devices, one for camera improvement, and other for network research, which will help accelerate the development of 5G.
According to Szymon Kopec, OnePlus’s product manager for India, the camera team in the country will work together with their counterparts in Taiwan toward an enhanced quality of pictures for users in India.
OnePlus is not the first company to have its own research facility in India. Last year, Oppo, another Chinese company, did the same, and its center also locates in Hyderabad.
OnePlus said that it had plans to invest more than Rs 1,000 crore into this center in the next few years given how important India is to the company’s strategy. Like Oppo, OnePlus has made a big bet on the availability of software talents here in India. A step expected to gain the company a more solid standing in the country and all over the world.
