Zomato is one of the biggest food delivery platforms in India, which is able to serve high-quality food to Indians, but it faces problems of time taken in delivery. To reduce the delivery time, the company announced on Wednesday that it has successfully completed tests on its drone technology for delivering food quickly to customers. It is a big announcement and maybe it's the future of delivery systems.
Zomato's bright future is not far
In the previous month, Zomato started a new drone startup named 'TechEagle' to make food delivery service faster and to also solve other problems like traffic and pollution in India. Zomato also announced that they are establishing a team following the guidelines of DGCA (Director General of Civil Aviation) for conducting trials with Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone operations.
Talking to IANS, the company said:
But Zomato didn't give any statement about the location, where the drones are eligible to deliver food packages. On May 13, DGCA notified that it had asked interest companies to submit an EOI (Expression of Interest) to be able to carry out experimental BVLOS of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) or Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS).
Delivery through air route is the only possible way to reduce the average 30 minutes to 15 minutes. Roads are not efficient for fast deliveries because there are many problems like heavy traffic in most populated cities which reduces delivery speed. Deepinder Goyal, Founder and CEO, Zomato, said:
This whole delivery system revolves around a drone, it is a hybrid drone which has fusion fixed wings and rotatory wings to carry 5kg loads. These drones are fully automated but currently being tested under (remote) pilot supervision to ensure security and safety. After a time, the company arranges more data and ensure all tests, it is likely to operate the drone without pilot supervision. The future is not so far. According to the latest data, a biker of Zomato takes about 30 mins for delivery.
