Microsoft Partners With Sony On Cloud-Based Gaming And AI

On Thursday, Microsoft and Sony said that they are in a strategic partnership to come up with cloud-based solutions for their content streaming and gaming.

On Thursday, Microsoft and Sony said that they are in a strategic partnership to come up with cloud-based solutions used for their content streaming services and games.

While the announcement does not mention any specific games like the Xbox or PlayStation, the partnership is likely to aim at entertainment platforms, which include gaming. Under the agreement, the pair will join hands to develop cloud solutions using Microsoft Azure, the release reveals. In addition, Sony may make use of Microsoft Azure for its content streaming services and games. It will also focus on building better tools that content creators can use.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nedella said in a release that Sonay has been leasing both technology and entertainment areas, on which the collaboration builds and that the partnership will give Sony the power of Azure and its AI to deliver new entertainment and gaming experiences for consumers.

Furthermore, Sony and Microsoft will explore their partnership regarding the semiconductors and AI areas.

Last month, both the companies shared new details on their new gaming consoles, which they may release in 2020. According to Sony, the PlayStation 5, as the new console might be named, will be based on AMD, with support for high-end graphics features such as 8K output and ray tracing, as well as switch to SSD storage. Then, tech giant Microsoft announced its Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, which a late addition to its Xbox One line which eventually gets rid of the optical drive.

In separate news, Microsoft recently held its Build 2019 event, where the company made a number of announcements. Those included an update to the current Edge browser, dubbed Edge Chromium browser, with brand new features 'Collection', IE Mode, and Edge privacy. Other announcements are ElectionGuard SDK for ensuring secure, auditable elections, a new update for digital assistant Cortana, a Fluid web, Windows Terminal, People-centric experiences on Microsoft 365, Xbox live, and Nadella.
