Instagram To Copy The Best Feature Of TikTok With The New Reels Tool

Similar to TikTok’s Duet, users can record a 15-second video with Reels on Instagram, adjust its pace, add music or audio from videos of others

Instagram has just introduced a new feature in Brazil that is the exact copy of TikTok’s. The new tool is named Reels and for now, we have no idea if it will be available in other nations. If it proves to be a success, Reels might be launched in more countries for sure.

Similar to TikTok’s Duet, users can record a 15-second video with Reels, adjust its pace, add music or audio from videos of others. The videos can be shared with Top Reels, a new Explore tab, stories, or send them via DMs.

Copying what the opponent does seems like a quick and clever way to take on them. Facebook’s Lasso is an attempt to recreate TikTok’s huge success worldwide but for now, the company has seen little success. Instagram succeeded in copying Stories from Snapchat back in 2016 and it seems like the company hopes that the same tactics will be effective this time.

Robby Stein, the product management’s director of Instagram said that the idea to combine video and music is quite common and what the company aims at is to make a unique format for the picture-sharing site.

In an audio leaked in October, we know that Mark Zuckerberg regards TikTok a strong opponent of Instagram. He said that the Chinese video-sharing platform had merged browsing with immersive, short-form videos, which was like Instagram’s Explore tab.

As TikTok is experiencing huge growth, it comes as no surprise that its competitors are moving fast to compete for users’ attention. The Chinese platform is also faced with troubles from regulators, and the latest issue is a national security review from the US.
