Apple’s highest-end smartphones, manufactured by Foxconn in India, are reportedly coming to local stores next month. This move is expected to help the iPhone maker to slash the price of its devices in the world’s second largest smartphone market.
The company is still waiting for approval, but it is highly likely that we can see India-made iPhone XS and XR sometime in August.
Apple has not responded to this matter while Foxconn said that it would not say anything relating to its customer’s products.
Boosting its production in India will save Apple a large sum of tax money imposing on imported fully-built devices. Local sourcing can also qualify the company to set up its first retail store in the country.
iPhones are well-loved by millions of Indians, but due to the high price, the devices are out of reach of a lot more, resulting in the market share of merely one percent for the company.
It is previously reported that Foxconn would begin assembling iPhone X lineup this year in Tamil Nadu.
The Indian government has been trying to make the country the manufacturing hub for smartphone companies by offering access to the country that has more than one billion wireless connections, as well as affordable labor.
This move has gained some initial success. Oppo and Samsung have focused more on improving their standing in the country while Foxconn’s operation in India has been rapidly expanded.
Apart from meeting the demands of the government, Apple and other companies like it can use India to cushion the impact of the ongoing trade war between China and the US.
Apple has lowered the forecast for iPhone sales in the first quarter, saying that it was due to the trade war and the reduced iPhone sales in China.
