On Monday, Huawei said that it would put more investment in 5G although the US has banned its products in the country. The company also stressed that it puts privacy and cybersecurity at the top of priorities.
Last month, Huawei was blacklisted as the US added the Chinese giant to its “entity list” (PDF). Furthermore, Donald Trump – the United States President – signed an executive order which essentially bans the firm following concerns over national security considering that Huawei is backed by the Chinese government. However, the phone maker denied this charge over and over again.
During the annual meeting of Huawei’s user group, held in Wuzhen, Ryan Ding – the company’s Carrier CEO – said that it will continue offering 5G products as well as partnering with carriers on the plan to build a “fully connected, intelligent world.”
According to a statement from Geoffrey Starks – a Federal Communications Commissioner, the US government had better cut Huawei as well as other Chinese telecommunications firms out of the country’s networks.
Also on Monday, Reuters reported that the Chinese giant is separating from its R&D arm in the US, Futurewei Technologies, headquartered in California. Accordingly, employees at the research and development arm have been moved to a new IT system. In addition, the company banned its staffers from the office and forbade using Huawei logo or brand in communications.
Huawei did not respond immediately to a comment request.
Earlier this year, in January, a report from The Wall Street Journal said that Futurewei couldn’t send some of its technologies to Huawei’s base in China because the Commerce Department said it would not renew the R&D arm’s export license.
In late May, Huawei moved to trademark its new OS’ name in Peru, called Hongmeng.
