Google is planning to launch its Kormo app in India to capture a share of the country’s job market.

As stated by the Economics Times, the company was doing several pilots focusing on how entry-level recruitments are done in several sectors. Kormo would be launched officially in India this Friday.

Here is what Bickey Russell, project lead of Google‘s Next Billion Users initiative, said about the app’s entry in the Indian market:

Kormo, the app that can run only on Android, was created by Area 120, Google’s place for experimenting with new projects. It was released in Bangladesh last year and has made its way to Indonesia earlier this year.

Kormo can connect job seekers and employers as well as provide training in the form of articles, videos, courses that suit several kinds of needs.

By bringing the app to India, Google expects to tap to a market where people are comfortable using a digital tool to look for employment.

Google has other tools to help job seekers save time; one of them is jobs search, which displays job listings in search results.

Another app is Hire, a tool for HR to keep track of and contact with their candidates. However, Google intends to axe it in a year to focus more on other services in Google Cloud.

Kormo will surely enter the competition with some local counterparts like OLX’s Aasaanjobs and Quikr’s BabaJob, which have gained a solid standing in the market for entry-level job search.
