Facebook Might Have Tried To Buy Spyware, Intending To Spy Users

According to the shared data, currently, Facebook is also accusing the NSO group of co-operating with the governments to hack select users using a flaw in the WhatsApp system. In the past, it has been reported in India that there were 121 WhatsApp users who were targets of the attack. 20 of 121 was successfully breached by the hackers.

Motherboard Vice provided a report revealed that Shalev Hulio - CEO of NSO Group of Facebook dispatching 2 staff to go to the company. Hulio also mentioned their offer of buying parts of the spyware program Pegasus.

The company turned out to have intentions of making use of these tools to supervise a number of its users. In addition, the report mentioned a VPN product named Onavo Protect, which belongs to Facebook, was being brought into the process.

Pegasus was originally created to intrude and lurk into the user’s phone and take away certain data from the device.

More details about the arrangement were also provided by the court filing. Facebook agreed on paying each Onavo Protect user a fee once a month. As a response to NSO, it claimed that the NSO was exaggerating the case, and in the meantime trying to misdirect the public interests from the facts in the Pegasus case.
