Last April, Facebook announced that it will redesign the desktop version for its social platform to make it less cluttered with brighter icons. And now, the company has been giving the new look to some users, saying that it plans to make it available to more people by spring.
For those who can access the redesigned Facebook desktop version, they will see a pop-up that invites them to test “The New Facebook.” Once they agree, the platform will let them choose to set either white backgrounds with bright colors or a dark one.
The new look is released when the social giant is trying to leave behind the privacy scandals and controversies it has faced over the past year. However, since the 2020 election is heating up in the US, Facebook, which has around 2.5 billion monthly users, is doubted not to be ready for election meddling, propaganda, and disinformation that may spread on its network.
The social giant has also been under increasing scrutiny from lawmakers and government regulators, putting it in the risk of being fined or even broken up.
In its response, Facebook launched an ad campaign that acknowledges its mistakes along with the promise to do better. Also, the company has redesigned its logo, which has been made more prominent on its other popular platforms, WhatsApp and Instagram.
For now, users that agree to use the redesigned website can go back to the old version. They can also give feedback to the company about the new look, letting it know if a feature doesn’t work for example.
Initially, Facebook said the new design will roll out last year, but that didn’t happen. However, it did give its mobile app a new look, similar to the redesigned web version.
