Bill Gates Believed That Breaking-up Tech Giants Wouldn't Make Sense

As per Gates, we’ll have two companies with bad behaviors instead of one doing the same things.

Over the years, Bill Gates has expressed his familiar opinions regarding antitrust regulations affected large tech giants, so whether he thinks the ongoing competition review released by the US government is good? In fact, he doesn’t get along with the idea, though reasons are not as what you might think. In an interview with Bloomberg, the founder of Microsoft said correcting the specific practices is better than breaking those companies up. As per his speech, you’ll have two companies with bad behaviors instead of one doing the same things if they’re only split into pieces. Though Gates doesn’t extremely dislike the concept, there are still a “narrow” set of circumstances for it to work.

In addition, he also discussed a mixed approach when it comes to taxation. For example, big tech companies, as well as Gates, believed that the current tax system is completely legal, but if politicians want to remove incentives to minimize taxes, they should make changes in the rule. Besides, Gates also told that it depended on not only government but also society to make sure that innovation in tech giants doesn’t make harmful effects.

Gang of Four in the US, and maybe in the world as well: Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon.

Elizabeth Warren, a presidential candidate, would be one of many that disagree with Gates. She has shown a negative view towards big tech giants (especially Facebook) and their enormous sizes, then called for their breakup. As argued by Warren, tech giants use their dominance position to buy up would-be rivals and make an anti-competitive market, so it won’t be better if they are able to continue all the acquisitions. On the other hand, Brad Smith – President of Microsoft, doesn’t call for such an explicit solution. However, he noticed that if the regulation is not strong enough, this could lead to many threats to the foundations of democracy. Put all aside, the perspective from Gates could be proven as the breakup of AT&T didn’t make any sense because there’re multiple carriers behaving poorly after that.
