Apple Forbids Bad Guys To Use iPhones In Movies

Director Rian Johnson of Knives Out recently broke out that Apple does not allow bad guys to use iPhones in movies

Director Rian Johnson of Knives Out recently broke out that Apple does not allow bad guys to use iPhones in movies, a kind of revelation that may spoil the whole fun of watching detective movies when you can tell who is good and who is bad by looking at the kind of phones they use.

Johnson said this in a scene breakdown video about his movie Knives Out for Vanity Fair. He also mentioned some interesting details about Apple’s strict policy when it comes to using its products in movies.

Johnson did hesitate a bit before spill this out as it might bring him lots of trouble when directing the next mystery movie, but he said it anyway. Apple lets movie characters use its smartphones but no villain can be caught on the camera using an iPhone.

Johnson went on joking that other directors would want to murder him for breaking this vital piece of information to the public as now they would have a hard time concealing who is the bad guy now.

While it might come as a surprise, this practice is not new. Nearly two decades ago, all the terrorists on the American show 24 used Windows while the heroes have Macs.

The reason behind this ban is unknown but it can be as simple as Apple is more careful about product placement than other smartphone vendors.

Of course, many have suspected the existence of such a policy but it was not until Johnson confirmed Apple’s restriction that they had concrete evidence to back their theory.

Now you might want to pay closer attention to what kind of phone movie characters use.
