Recently, 9to5Mac uncovered a photo of a Smart Battery Case with a square camera bump on the back, which suggests that if the case makes it to reality, it will be for the iPhone 11 lineup releasing this year. The information on the case is found in the code of iOS 13.2.
This year, Apple has fixed one of the most serious weaknesses of its handset, which is the battery life by making the iPhones thicker to be able to house a larger battery. So a Smart Battery Case will prolong that time even more.
All we know so far is how the case looks and nothing on its actual capacity. Apple might release this case for one model of the iPhone 11 lineup only. However, since last year’s Smart Case is for all of the three phones, it might be the case this year too.
Last year’s smart case has a similar design to those for iPhone 7 and iPhone 6S. However, the hump is longer and reaches the bottom of the phone. The case will add some extra weight to the device, and it will even turn the iPhone XS into a cumbersome chunk. With the case on iPhone XS Max and XR, users may have difficulty handing them and the phones might fall off their pockets.
You may find it hard to stuff the case into one’s pocket because of the gummy silicon finish. It will also retain dust and fingerprints after just a few minutes in use. The case does provide a better grip but it can get too sticky sometimes.
A leather version of the case will be an excellent idea but whether we will ever see it happens largely depends on Apple.
