Apple is quietly removing the Dashboard from its macOS in the upcoming Catalina update, according to MacRumors, which was spotted by Appleosophy. In 2005, the Dashboard first appeared on Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger operating system and the most recent version is OS X 10.7 Lion which appeared in 2011.

The Dashboard

For over a decade, this app is a highlight of Apple. Diverse applications such as clocks, stocks, weather have made the utility of the Dashboard. Since 2011, Dashboard is no longer being upgraded and improved. Therefore, it will be somewhat outdated compared to the Mac OS.

Starting from OS X 10.10 version appeared in 2014, Apple has turned off the Dashboard application. However, users can still access it in the control panel. Similar to Dashboard, iTunes also has the same fate. Both applications are in turn removed by Apple from the latest version of the Mac OS.

In order to replace the above applications, Apple has introduced many other more convenient applications. These new applications meet both functionality and aesthetics for later versions of the operating system. Users can download applications like Airmail, Fantastical or App Music in the App Store.

Removing the Dashboard forever from Apple's operating system is a pity. The appearance of the Dashboard for nearly 15 years has created highlights for Apple's operating system. The dashboard brings convenience and usefulness to users. Users have become accustomed to the appearance and features of the Dashboard for a long time. Apple's success is made up of old applications like Dashboard, iTunes. Now users have to change their usage habits when there is no Dashboard. For new Mac OS users, this is perfectly acceptable. But for those who have been using the Mac OS for a long time, they will feel sorry for Apple's decision.

Removing old applications and replacing them with new applications is obvious. Technology companies always aim for the top products and values for customers. In the future, there will be many familiar applications that are replaced by more suitable new applications.
