Kayla Ramos, an 11-year-old girl living in California, said that her iPhone 6 went up in flame. She reported that the phone started showing sparks when she was holding it. She later threw it across the room.
The girl reported that the flame had burned a hole through the blanket and that she only used it to watch YouTube and let her siblings play games on it:
Maria Adata, Kayla’s mother, reported this incident to Apple, and the company instructed her to send the damaged phone to a service center. It is believed that the company had replaced it with a new one and conducted an investigation on the cause of the flame. However, it has not made any official comment on this matter.
The iPhone maker said that numerous reasons could make their device go up in flame; some of them were aftermarket repairs and unauthorized charging cables. In this case, the mother said that the phone had been subjected to none of those.
This is not the first time an Apple device went up in flame. In many cases, the iPhones caught fire because they were overheated, like when one was placed under a pillow. Last year, a man in Ohio claimed that his less-than-one-month-old iPhone XS Max exploded in his own pocket and burned his leg. Two years ago, there was a video on Twitter showing an iPhone 7 Plus busted into flame.
