Nathan Bomey posted on Twitter that the company’s plan is to have these electric vans running on the roads by 2024. The prototypes will be ready by 2020, so the first of these vehicles will likely be put into operations as soon as 2021. Rivian, a startup focusing on electric vehicles and is known for its adventure vehicles, will be Amazon’s partner.

At the moment, on the market, there are only two EV offerings from Rivian, an all-electric pickup truck R1T, and an SUV called SUV R1S. But with only these two vehicles, the company has made quite a name for itself. The company has received an investment of $700 million from Amazon last February. Besides Amazon, there are other investors as well.

Amazon’s own investment will also benefit from its acquisition of Rivian’s delivery vans, with more orders coming. Meanwhile, the partnership between Amazon and Rivian is an announcement for another Rivian’s development, a new delivery van. Before, the company hasn’t given any hint regarding its vehicle.

When Rivian finishes developing its new delivery van for Amazon and the vehicles hit the road, this is a win-win situation. For Rivian, it will experience strong sales growth even before the vehicle is brought to the company’s production lines. As for Amazon, a new fleet of electric vans will help reduce the carbon footprint, benefitting the environment.
