Users of Amazon Pay in India can now give Alexa voice command to pay bills for TV, utility, mobile, and Internet for them. Amazon is a major competitor of Walmart-backed Flipkart in the country. It said that the cross-platform function works on any device supporting Alexa, not just the Amazon-made Echo smart speakers. So this means Amazon Pay users in India can take advantage of the feature even via a pair of headphones, even the Fire TV Stick dongle, and Echo Dot smart speaker, as long as they have Alexa.

This is the first time ever, Amazon allows that kind of integration between Amazon Pay and Alexa anywhere in the world. So this is another case of India-first services. The company has long let subscribers in various markets to make purchases with a voice command via Alexa. However, it is the first time users can pay for water, gas, electricity, and satellite TVs with Amazon Pay.

It comes as no surprise that the company releases this feature in the country before any other country. The company has launched lots of new and major features in India even before its home country, the U.S. For example, you might have heard that Alexa recently has support for Spanish in the States. However, it released Hindi for the virtual assistant long before that.

India is among the most important markets for Amazon Pay, courtesy of the help from the India government. Back in 2016, the government ceased the circulation of some banknotes, citing reasons as to encourage digital payments.
