We Compared Rs. 12,000 AirPods With Its 2,400 Fake Product, The Result Will Surprise You

Will the Rs. 2,459 clone be able to beat AirPods, which come at the price of around Rs. 11,170?

When looking at this picture, the first thing crosses your mind is probably two pairs of AirPods sitting next to each other. But actually, one of them is a replica, and they are everywhere you look nowadays. For the question of which one is better, the Rs. 2,459 clone, or the Rs. 12,000 ones right out of Apple’s factory, here is the answer.

AirPods and AirSounds

We will see the differences between AirSounds True Wireless Earbuds, which will set you back Rs. 2,459. They have the word Air in the name (like AirPods), and they bear a striking resemblance to Apple AirPods, at least by the look of them.

Apart from the look, do they differ in any other respect? The performance? The sound quality? And the comforts? Read on to find out.

Fit

The AirSounds True Wireless Earbuds are slightly bigger than the AirPods

Apple EarPods, the pair accompanies iPhones in the box, has always been a comfortable fit to users’ ears. The AirPods are just the same even though it is slightly bigger in size. However, they might fit most people but not all of them. Some might find the wireless earbuds to be too large or too small, depending on the size of their ears.

The AirPods and AirSounds' cases are relatively the same in size, but there are minor differences.

If you look a bit closer at the earbuds of the AirSounds, you will notice that they are a bit bigger than those of AirPods. That exceeded millimeters can put pressure on your ears, especially when you wear them for more than 20 or 30 minutes. However, it does come with a benefit. If you find the AirPods a bit small for your ears, the AirSounds might fit in perfectly.

Features

The disparity in price does come with fewer features on the AirSounds. Do not bother to expect advanced functions like automatically pausing playback when one of the earbuds is taken out of your ear or something like that.

That may not sound like a feature users cannot live without, but the lack of auto-connect is more serious. With the AirPods, all you need to do is to open the case, and the earbuds will connect to your smartphone right away.

There is no easier way to do the same on the AirSounds rather than pressing the small button on the earbuds. After that, they will be paired with each other and the phone. When you have done with it, you will hear audio notifying you of the successful connection.

The auto-connect feature offers so much convenience that once you have got used to it, anything less is unacceptable.

When you put the AirPods back in their case, they will automatically turn off and charge, which you cannot expect on the AirSounds given their price. You have to turn them off by yourself, and if you want them to charge, you have to push a button.

However, there are features to make up to that. You can shut them both down by pressing the button on one. If you press twice, you will conjure Siri rather than playing back the track.

When it comes to charging, you can wirelessly charge the AirPods if you pay more for that special case, and there is the choice to draw power via Lighting. After each time you plug it in, the case can support up to four charging times, an equivalent of 24 hours of listening time.

When it comes to AirSounds, you have two or three charging times and a total of 11 hours of playing.

Outdoor Performance

The AirPods have better connectivity

The company manual said that AirSounds use Bluetooth 5.0, but the product page showed that it is Bluetooth 4.2. Whatever the technology, the connection will be interrupted if you cover one of the earbuds with your hand for example. For runners, you might want to look elsewhere if you are on the market for a pair of earbuds to accompany you in training sessions. The dropouts become a serious problem when the earbuds are under the impact of body movements.

This issue is not restricted to the AirSounds though. Some other Bluetooth devices run into the same problem when your head block the signals. However, users if AirPods do not usually experience this. The same happens to people using wireless earbuds with Bluetooth 5.0.

Sound Quality

Here is the part that we have been waiting for. A pair of earbuds may not have auto-connect function nor great connection, but if it fails at the sound quality, all will be lost.

AirPods are definitely not the best earbuds in the world at this respect, but they are not bad either. The sounds are well-rounded and balanced, except for the lack of solid bass. There is no inner-ear seal on them like the Anker Soundcore Liberty Air, so this is easy to understand.

Despite all the downsides, the AirSounds provide decent sound quality, which might come at a surprise for most people. They are no match for the AirPods but if you expand the comparing range, AirSounds actually a good deal when given their price.

Verdict

If you are a fan of how AirPods look like and do not want to stretch your budget for them, the AirSounds are a close substitute.

The real question here is if an AirPod replica makes sense. So unless you are serious about the status issue, like some people insist on wearing real Rolex only. A clone is not a big deal at all.

The Soundcore Liberty Air comes at Rs. 5,620 and gives you more robust bass, driven by its noise-isolating function. For the price tag of Rs. 3,512, you will have good enough sounds with the TaoTronics TWS TT-BH053. They both have a similar design with the AirPods, but they are black, not white, so the similarity is less visible.

If you love the auto-connect and auto-recharge features so much but still want to save some money, the BlitzWolf BW-FYE1 offer them both at the price of Rs. 2,318.

The AirPods have a solid fan base, but when we put the status issue aside, there are more affordable alternatives with better sound quality and even better design on the market to choose from.
