University Students Intentionally Get COVID-19 To Sell Antibody Plasma

Some of the students at Brigham Young University are trying to be infected with COVID-19 intentionally and selling their antibody plasma.

The Brigham Young University in Idaho has decided to launch an investigation to look into claims stating that some of the university’s students are trying to be infected with COVID-19 intentionally and selling their antibody plasma.

The university’s officials are strongly against this behavior of its students and have announced that anyone caught attempting to be infected with the coronavirus on purpose would be suspended. The investigation is being carried out on campus. The university has urged that students should not put themselves as well as other people at risk just for financial risks since the risk isn’t worth the reward.

Idaho news outlets have found several donation centers that have been paying people cash for antibody plasma. There is one that is close to Brigham Young University. This center claims to pay $100 to COVID-19 survivors every time they visit to show their thankfulness. Another location is said to pay donors $400 for their first two visits, $200 for each.

The FDA has stated that plasma from patients who were successfully treated is known to have potential benefits in treating COVID-19. Patients who have made a complete recovery for a minimum of two weeks are encouraged to make plasma donation, which may help save critical patients’ lives.

The treatment called convalescent plasma therapy was used during the Spanish Flu pandemic in 1928 before antivirals or vaccines were available. The method relies on the blood of people who have made a full recovery of the disease. The recovered patients’ blood plasma has immunity against COVID-19, helping the infected patients to fight the coronavirus.
