Recently, one of Volkswagen Group’s arms in Europe, Skoda, researched and found out that every year, parents in Britain averagely spend 2,652 kilometers taking their children from and to numerous activities. Despite the fact that promoting children interest in social activities is a crucial part of being a good parent, Skoda made the decision to design something that requires them to exchange housework for these rides.
The Parent Taxi app from Skoda aims at forcing kids to do housework to earn these rides as a reward. Its design is similar to a taxi’s meter, which tracks the car through GPS and converts the driven miles into different chores for kids, such as cleaning their bedroom, mowing the lawn, and washing dishes.
That “receipt” can be sent to passengers by the drivers, and yet quid pro quo practice is not restricted to lobbyists and politicians.
In fact, however, the Skoda app isn’t actually able to force children to do housework as there is no exact legal support for this app, it totally depends on parents whether these chores will be done or not. It is probable that a nice request will be a good start.
Actually, Skoda Parent Taxi app is only available for kids who aren’t old enough to own a license. Once they are allowed to drive, there is no method that is able to prevent them from an aimless drive, which is a common thing for many teenagers. The biggest aim of many teen-driver-focused systems is to provide safety knowledge for kids with a license. For instance, in 2020, the ChevyTraverse’s new feature, Buckle to Drive, will not allow people to start driving until they have already buckled up. In addition, Teen Driver also has a "report card" and a limiter for the top speed that provides parents with children’s status behind the wheel.
