This New App Tells You Exactly Where You Can And Cannot Fly Your Drones

The FAA, along with Kittyhawk, has rolled out a new version of B4UFLY that allows users to find out flight restrictions in real-time

A new version of B4UFLY has been rolled out as a result of the collaboration between the American FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and the drone software maker Kittyhawk.

This new version provides people with helpful information about the areas you can fly your drones in the NAS through the use of Dynamic Airspace, a controller of Kittyhawk. Since July 31st, users can get B4UFLY on their mobile through Google Play and Apple Store for free.

Presently, most drone pilots are not allowed to fly their drones in the area near airports, military facilities, national parks, and important infrastructures. In certain cases, there’ll also be temporary limitations over drones’ flying. As the number of restrictions is pretty big, it was necessary, though inconvenient, for drone pilots to regularly check the website of the FAA.

Now, with the advent of B4UFLY, people just need to open the app to find out their exact location and whether there is any flight restriction in nearby areas or not. This version is integrated with an open-source mapping site, Mapbox, which is "informative and interactive," according to FAA. What’s more, the administration equipped B4UFLY with a new warning system, including “Do Not Fly,” “Good to Go,” and “Warning.”

Dan Elwell, the Acting Administrator of FAA, stated that:

The new B4UFLY also has the link that leads you to “Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability” of FAA. This site allows you to ask for permission for your drones in controlled airspaces.

However, it’s important for you to check the weather forecast before going outside as part of being a drone pilot. The future B4UFLY is expected to include both the weather tracking and the integration of Remote ID of a pilot. In addition, Kittyhawk is working to add more features like emergency response, public safety, and natural disasters.
