The Reason Why 1.6 lakh Twitter Accounts Have Been Suspended

In the previous period from July to December in 2018, 166,513 Twitter accounts have been suspended by Twitter for encouraging and promoting terrorism.

Thanks to the platform’s "zero-tolerance policy enforcement," there has been a reduction in groups of terrorists that are attempting to exploit Twitter. According to Vijaya Gadde – Twitter's Legal, Policy and Trust, and Safety Lead  – the previous period from January to June in 2018 witnessed a decrease in terror-related tweets in 19 percent.

It is stated that most of the cases, actions were taken by Twitter towards the account setup page even before that account could even make a tweet.

Japan with 24 percent of requests takes second place behind the US. Information inquiries from France (5 percent),  Germany (6 percent), India (6 percent) and the UK (13 percent) in total comprise 30 percent of the information requests globally. 48 nations including Slovenia, Macedonia, Kyrgyzstan, and Bulgaria sent their legal requests to Twitter to specify 27,283 for the first time.

In the reporting period, 456,989 particular accounts were suspended by Twitter due to violations of child sexual exploitation. This figure was said to be 6 percent fewer compared to the previous reporting period.

96 percent of those particular accounts were found by a mix of technology solutions, which included internal proprietary tools and PhotoDNA. It is estimated that approximately 75 percent were later removed automatically for not passing Twitter’s account challenge process.
