The Tamil Nadu Government Will Ban TikTok In India For Vulgar Content

Reportedly, the Indian community on TikTok has become so vast that there have been allegations of sexual crimes.

While TikTok becomes famous for being a free zone where people get to express themselves, the Tamil Nadu government believes this is going too far.

They think that the app is too vulgar, possibly triggering, and may cause law problems in the future; and they want to ban the platform in India.

On February 12, the Tamil Nadu government said to assembly members that it will take actions to make sure TikTok is banned. While AIADMK MLA Thamimun Ansari considers its content as rude, IT Minister M Manikandan stated that they would push the government to release a banning order.

TikTok is a social platform for sharing musical videos, which belongs to the Chinese company ByteDance. Vine, a now-defunct platform, would include any kind of videos, but TikTok is focused on lip-syncing clips.

Anyway, the platform has recently achieved global success, especially in India, where users can show off their dance moves to Bollywood songs and more. Of course, the bigger the community, the more problems may arise, in this case, some videos may be a bit titillating.

The trouble here is there have been accusations of sexual predators using the platform to groom underage kids to act comfortably in front of a camera.

TikTok, aka Douyin which means vibrating sound, was launched in China back in September 2016. A year after that, the platform went overseas to the global market. Currently, it’s among the leading platforms for video sharing across the US and Asia, as well as other regions over the world.

In October 2018, TikTok gained the most downloads in the United States. Also in this year, the platform was available in more than 150 markets, supported 75 languages. On TikTok, users can make 15-second musical videos. As of July 2018, there were over half a billion users on this video-sharing platform, coming from every part of the planet.
