Tesla Autopilot V9 Autonomously Switches Lanes In Its “Mad Max” Mode

Currently being in a phased rollout, Tesla Autopilot V9 can switch lanes on its own even at a speed of 130km/hr.

Tesla has set a new level for the autopilot industry in their stunning latest update of software. Currently being in a phased rollout, 9.0 is the latest version of Tesla software. According to the information revealed, the promising software appeared to help Tesla cars' owners switch lane using autonomous mode. Moreover, the cars also have ability to adjust lane switching based on different driving styles, including Mild mode to Mad Max mode.

As seen in online videos posted recently, even at the speed of 130km/h, a Tesla can still easily switch lane without any controls of the car's driver. Compared to the autopilot feature currently existing in the market, this was claimed to be an surprisingly innovative update.

That also means the company's software update is a big step forward of Tesla's vehicles technology. It has successfully raised capabilities of the company’s autonomy from current level to level 3. Despite that fact, human input is still needed when it comes to lane changing. According to Jasper Nuyens, it is because that the Tesla cars, although have been designed to be able to change the lanes itself, usually switch to closed or non-existing lanes when it detect obstacles appearing in the road. Therefore, the cars tended to avoid these objects as many as possible with their previous programmed.

Not only does the update help with overtaking drivers' role, it also operate following the navigation. This function of Tesla's products can assist changing lanes at highway intersections. The new feature can also maintain stable speed, although when required, it will brake.

This video below has illustrated how a Tesla Autopilot maintain its speed from 100 to 130 km/h. Although we cannot see much of the car's action because of scarce traffic, the footage is a convincing evidence for the car's effective operation even with the "Mad Max" mode.
