Running Will Be Less Horrible With This Pair Of Robot Shorts

For a lot of people, running is considered a torturous activity, but now it will become much more comfortable with the robot shorts designed by Harvard researchers. Actually, the pair of robot shorts are a hip exosuit that is lightweight and able to make users feel around sixteen pounds lighter when they walk and twelve pounds lighter when they run.

The exosuit makes users feel around sixteen pounds lighter when they walk and twelve pounds lighter when they run

According to the researchers’ findings published on Monday in Science, the exosuit can do this thanks to the reduction in the energy spent or the metabolic cost of users by 4% while running and over 9% while walking. The pair of robot shorts can switch between running and walking without any problems. When the wearer puts the exosuit on and starts to move, the suit helps the wearer with a "cable actuation system." As mentioned in the release, these cables exert a tensile force between the thigh wrap and waist belt to make an extension torque at users’ hip joint, which works with their glutes.

This exosuit would be useful to people covering large distances such as rescue workers who work in disaster areas, or hikers who make long treks.

Also, in the release, the study lead said:
