A team of NASA scientists has finished working on a ventilator model that is used for COVID-19 treatment in just 37 days. The next step is getting approval from the US Food and Drug Administration.
As informed by a reliable source, these ventilators were specially designed to treat COVID-19 victims and it passed a demanding test at the beginning of this week.
VITAL
VITAL, which stands for Ventilator Intervention Technology Accessible Locally, is the name of the special device manufactured by engineers from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
JPL Director Michael Watkins admitted his team was not experts on medical-device manufacturing but spacecraft; however, they totally took pride in their outstanding engineering, meticulous research, and rapid prototyping.
Satisfying Expectations
NASA ventilators are said to bring more convenience in machine assembly as well as maintenance than a traditional one on the ground that it is comprised of far fewer parts. It is also possible to use its modified version in field hospitals.
According to Director of Innovation at the Icahn School of Medicine - Matthew Levin, NASA’s forerunner has lived up to the expectation under the circumstances of a wide range of simulated patients.
Therefore, the team holds strong beliefs in the potential of the VITAL ventilators, suggesting that will be able to save the life of thousands of people getting infected with the coronavirus, not only from the U.S but all around the world as well.
