Following an investigation, Chinese police recently arrested a single mother for selling her newborn twin sons for around 6.54 lakh to pay off her debts and get herself a new smartphone.
Chinese newspaper Ningbo Evening News reported that the woman who is still in her 20s decided to sell her twin babies in September 2018 with the reason that she has no money left and was heavily in debt. The heartless mother whose surname is Ma added that her pre-marital pregnancy was not accepted by her parents. Thus they refused to support her in raising the babies. While the twins’ father, known as Wu, clearly stated that he didn’t want to have any relation with his children.
It remains unclear how Ma succeeded in finding her month-old twins’ buyers. Zaobao reports that the shocking transaction was only discovered by the police while they were investigating a similar case. The result of the investigation suggested that two different couples from Anhui Province have paid to buy the babies. One couple is in Fuyang while the other is in Suzhou. The total amount of money that the mother received was around 6.54 lakh.
The father who wasn’t even there when the babies were born only showed up after knowing that they were sold and asked for half of the money. Police said that according to Ma, she did give the man half the proceeds. She used her part to pay her bank debts as well as buying a new smartphone. Meanwhile, the father used his part to settle his gambling debts.
The babies were tracked down by the police and are now with Ma’s parents. Police have arrested the irresponsible parents and they are now facing serious prison time. When they were caught, they had both squandered the money that they had got from the sale.
