Artificial intelligence has taken our world by storm just in a matter of years, thanks to a slew of benefits it would bring to human society. In comparison with human capabilities, AI is not only faster but also better at problem-solving; however, its multitasking skills are not too impressive at all. In the face of that, researchers always put effort into making it more effective around the clock.
Recently, a team of researchers from Facebook is training AI with an exciting method as the main purpose is to make its multitasking done more well, instead of doing a single task. The unique tool for this plan is nothing sophisticated but the video game Minecraft, which has been all the rage in the gaming community for quite a while. As the game comes with an infinite world allowing players to craft things and survive with different modes, researchers take advantage of it to develop AI with more interactions as well as tasks on demand.
While the game’s expanse is endless of some sort, it’s relatively simple to understand why the AI could be predictive for several outcomes in the game. Players may have to perform a vast number of tasks when diving into the game, but each of them is not hard at all for AI to make its own way into multitasking.
On the other hand, complex commands or the meaning of every word ordered by humans may become a hard-to-solve issue. For example, once you command an order like “Build a tower with 20 blocks then put a smile emoticon on top,” the AI has to figure out what exactly a tower or smiley is. With a player base of hundreds of millions of players, it can be done with countless interactions within the game from them.
Of course, it’s worth waiting for an AI assistant to come along with us in Minecraft!
