The publication reported the victim saying that those crimes had made her feel unsafe. She said that she can no longer trust existing security protections as well as laws as they can be exploited.

During the six months of their relationship, the offender helped the victim purchase a Land Rover car. He got the car’s VIN number, using it to create an account on an app that let him turn on and off the car as well as adjust its windows. Plus, the service sent him notifications of the car’s location through emails.

According to the report, the victim said that she woke up one night to see him standing at her bed. She said that he just stood there quietly, then said with a low voice that she was lucky he wasn’t a robber or a bad person.

She only knew that he was stalking her after she couldn’t find her phone in the car. She said to the court that by checking the phone activity on the laptop, she found that his email was open on the phone. The account gave notifications of tracking her car along with maps of her parking location and office.

The woman then had to borrow a phone and called her father. When police searched his property, they found a notebook containing a list of weapons, their prices, as well as the victim’s private info like dates of her classes and places she visited frequently.

According to a spokesperson from Land Rover, the company disabled the app as soon as it acknowledged the issue.
