Man Gave Fake COVID-19 Vaccine To 92YO, Charging Rs 26,000

Police are searching for a fraudster who injected a fake COVID-19 vaccine into a 92-year-old woman and claimed to work for the National Health Service, England.

Specifically, the wanted man charged the old woman Rs 16,000, telling her that the NHS would give the money back to her. According to the police, the woman let the man in her house then he jabbed her with a “dart-like implement,” as in her description. Days later, he came back to the address and asked for another Rs 10,000.

It remains unclear if the man really jabbed any substance into the woman, but she went to the local hospital for a checkup and didn’t suffer any ill effects.

Detective Inspector Kevin Ives from the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit of the City of London Police said:

“This is a disgusting and totally unacceptable assault on a member of the public which won’t be tolerated.

We are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist us in identifying this man to get in touch. It is crucial we catch him as soon as possible as not only is he defrauding individuals of money, he may endanger people’s lives.”

The Oxford COVID-19 vaccine is aimed to vaccinate 13 million people by mid-February, including all those older than 80 years. Accordingly, healthcare providers or GP will invite people to get the vaccine.

A spokesman from the Department of Health said:

“NHS England will never ask for bank details, pin numbers or passwords, when contacting you about a vaccination.”

“You will never be charged for the vaccine.”
