In a recent interview with The Cut, Instagram’s co-founder and former CEO Kevin Systrom freely shared a lot of intriguing things concerning Instagram’s impact on our lives. Especially, he revealed that he once flew out to Rome to personally sign Pope Francis up for his own account.

Actually, Systrom once made the trip to the Vatican twice. The first time was to present the Pope with the idea of engaging in this social media. It just took a few weeks to hear back from the Vatican, and it was when Systrom decided to fly out to the Vatican again. Doing this, Systrom realized the profound implications that his platform had in society.

After a few buttons, if only everything in life was super easy, the Pope had an IG account. Under the username @franciscus, the Pope posted the first photo in March 2016. Instagram was considered as the intelligent and logical next social media step for Pope Francis, it also directly supported him to encourage the spread of his messages and campaigns.
