India Is Working On An App To Track COVID-19 Patients

The Indian government is working on an app to track active COVID-19 cases. The app is currently in its beta testing phase on both iOS and Android.

It is reported that the Indian government is working on an app to track active COVID-19 cases. The app is currently in its beta testing phase on both iOS and Android. The initial stable version is expected to be released in the coming days.

Beta testers using Android got the chance to experience this app through an APK. Meanwhile, iOS users in order to get the download link, have to send with the National Informatics Centre their device UDIDs.

The smartphone app will be used for controlling the virus’s community spread. Through this app, the government will trace individuals’ personal ravel histories and to see how many people that have close contact with them.

The experts believe that this app will be beneficial in the long term in containing the spread of the virus by quarantining potential patients. People who have direct contact with active COVID-19 patients will also be tracked to control the spread.

Officials from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Niti Aayog said that they were working on two separate apps having the same purpose but have deciđe to combine these apps’ best pát into one single powerful app.

It remains unclear the upcoming app is from which developer. While a Niti Aayog poster suggested that the app would be called CoWin-20, the app from MeitY would be named Corona Kavach.
