Elon Musk Mocks Space Colonies Plan Of Jeff Bezos

Elon Musk is roasting Jeff Bezos, claiming that his idea for building space colonies humans will eventually live in is totally ridiculous.

Feud About Space

Recently, the founder of the e-commerce giant Jeff Bezos has been talking a lot about the idea of the giant colonies in space where human will live in the future. In fact, that very idea has been mocked at by the critics for years. Mostly because they believe that if humans couldn't take care of Earth (their 1st space habitat) then they will surely do a bad job with other space colonies.

Now Elon Musk SpaceX has jumped on the train to roast Jeff Bezos' idea.

Why it couldn't work?

The main subject of Elon's critique is the O’Neill cylinder design that Bezos envisions for the colonies.

Just on May 23, Elon Musk tweeted on Twitter that the idea of space giant colonies of Bezos is totally ridiculous. The main subject of Elon's critique is the O’Neill cylinder design that Bezos envisions for the colonies. According to Elon, that design would require an enormous amount of materials to make, which we cannot afford.

However, the idea of Bezos could still work in theory. We could drag up a giant space colony up to a planet's gravity well (the Earth for example). However, to complete such a task with our current launch technology would be really inefficient.

Musk has also alluded an idea for space colonies in the tweet. The idea is to taking materials to make the space habitat from the asteroids which have less gravitation force than of the planets. Or we could even build the space station right in the asteroid.

In fact, many scientists have been rooting for the idea to build one inside an asteroid. The main reason is that mining materials from asteroids are hard since microgravity drilling is a very tricky thing since you will get push away if you impact an exerting force on the asteroid.
