When the COVID-19 is spreading around the world like a wildfire, it is not safe to attend funerals, weddings, or any other events that have a lot of people. By going to crowded places, people are exposed to the risk of getting infected.
That is why the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has announced that all events taking place in the next 8 weeks with more than 50 people will be postponed indefinitely. This decision will be applied to both weddings and funerals.
Other countries are having the same situation. In a time like this, while many have canceled their weddings, the number of deaths keeps rising every day. According to the New York Times, the number of deaths caused by COVID-19 has reached 300. Italy has already banned funerals to prevent the disease from spreading.
David Berendes, an epidemiologist working with the CDC says that they will support those who would like to live-stream the funeral. For those who can’t avoid attending events, it is advised to prepare hand sanitizers and avoid direct contact with other people.
COVID-19 has officially been declared by the World Health Organization as a pandemic with more than 218,000 confirmed cases and over 8,800 deaths. India reported 169 cases with 3 deaths. India has imposed stricter travel policies on foreigners traveling to the country.
Preventing the spread of the virus, many state governments have shut down colleges, schools, colleges until March 31st. Restaurants are facing a huge loss in profit as people avoid public places in fear of COVID-19. Travelers arriving at the Indian borders will have their body temperatures checked by the medical staff. Public transportation including buses, metro, and trains will be disinfected regularly. Various companies have allowed their employees to work from home.
