China Reports Sudden Surge In Asymptomatic COVID-19 Cases

On October 26, China reported a new rise in asymptomatic COVID-19 cases. These cases were recorded after the authorities discovered a cluster of cases at a garment factory in Xinjiang.

The health authorities found 137 asymptomatic cases when testing 4.75 million citizens of the Kashgar area. This was after a 17-year-old female worker at a garment factory was tested positive with the coronavirus but showing no symptoms.

Although it wasn’t clear how the teenager has contracted the virus, the new cases were said to have a connection with another garment factory where the parents of the teenagers work. However, the parents hadn’t tested positive.

The teenager was discovered to be infected during the Xinjiang’s routine weekly testing. She was considered to be in “key groups of people.” But it wasn’t specified who were in those groups.

According to the National Health Commission, the mainland also recorded 20 new confirmed as well as 161 asymptomatic cases. The number of new infections with no symptoms is highest ever since those cases start being revealed.

As of the afternoon of October 25, 2.84 million people in the Kashgar area had been tested. The extensive speed testing is being conducted to prevent the novel disease from resurfacing in clusters and the area becoming the ground zero, like what happened with Wuhan in February.

By carrying out such rapid testing, authorities will be able to pinpoint all the cases and where they originate from to stop it before it gets out of hand.
