India is among the founding members of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI). Some other nations in this league include the UK, USA, and Australia.
This initiative gears toward responsible development and use of artificial intelligence, with respect for economic growth, human rights, diversity, innovation, and inclusion.
The league work toward a better understanding of the opportunities and challenges around the use of artificial intelligence, based on the experience of all participating nations.
The initiative will also work to develop applied activities and cutting-edge research on AI.
In his tweet, Ravi Shankar Prasad, union minister for electronics and IT, expressed delight to be the one of the founding members of the partnership to promote human-centric and responsible use of AI.
The partnership also has the participation of New Zealand, Italy, Mexico, Singapore, Germany, Republic of Korea, Canada, Japan, and France.
According to a statement from the Indian government, by joining this initiative, the nation would actively participate in the development of artificial intelligence and contribute its experience to inclusive growth.
Before joining GPAI, India introduced the National AI Strategy and the National AI Portal to gather the best ideas and resources to use AI on several industries and sectors.
The initiative will have a Secretariat hosted in Paris by OECD (short for Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development), and two Centers of Expertise in Paris and Montreal.
